In 2000 a group of 8 lesbians met through a Kenric Advertisement and formed Friendly Oxford Gay Girls (FOGG) which at its peak attracted around 80 members. It was decided early on that there would be no committees, no subscriptions, and that we would meet at the Jolly Farmers Pub in Oxford on the first Wednesday of each month.
A Book Club was formed along with a Bridge Club and whilst they have continued the Fogg Group unfortunately stopped meeting in 2009 due mainly to the main organisers of functions having family and work committments.
However, many of group kept in very close contact and meet up for the odd party and it was at a barbeque in July 2011 where Brenda and Sheila asked everyone if they would support starting a new group as they and their partners were sure there were still a lot of new friends waiting out there. The suggestion was supported by everyone and after a lively debate on the new name it was decided to call the group "Sugar and Spice Lesbian Social Group".
As the ethos of Fogg worked so well, it was agreed again to have no subscriptions or committees and to meet monthly.
This new website has been set up along with a closed mailing list which can only be accessed by those attending meetings or events. Seasonal parties, quiz nights and musics nights have already been aranged and we are looking forward to meeting new friends.
